Enter the Wu…

Came across this article on The Atlantic website.  I was pretty impressed that a publication like that was highlighting a post about the Wu.  I guess if the President’s bumping to Hova than all bets are off.  I will say that anybody who can make a compelling comparison between “Built 4 Cuban Linx” and “The Odyssey” is okay by me.  Forever in my mind Hip-Hop in the 1990’s will be forever linked to memories of “Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers” banging from the speakers in my car.  While one rapper single rapper could never fill the big shoes left behind by Biggie, the Wu showed me that maybe a certain nine rappers could.

The Sun Rises…

My inaugural post.  What you might be wondering to yourself is “why”?  Why should I send my words out into the world?  Do I actually think people will care?  What makes me so goddamned special?  Well, voice in my head, these are excellent questions.  In all honesty there are probably no satisfactory answers.  There is nothing about me that makes me any more qualified to look out across this vast cultural landscape of ours than anybody else (except maybe some extra smarminess).  And there is no reason that I should expect that there are people out there who will listen.

Let’s face it, in this day and age any asshole with a keyboard and an internet connection thinks that he’s the next Fitzgerald.  So it’s not only very likely that everything I say here will disappear into the endless vacuum of the internet, it’s almost certain.  Hence the title of this blog.  As such, everything written here will be just as much for me as it will be for the world.  Something of my own little private examination of culture.  An entirely Dada’esque effort to understand, enjoy, and criticize all of the ridiculousness that springs up everyday.  If I can entertain some myself and some others along the way, well, that’s just gravy.
