I’ve kind of been bemoaning the lack of good “prestige” movies to close out this year. After, when all of these were in production, there was a writer’s strike on, it makes sense that not everything is going to be glittering. However, there are some exceptions, with one in particular; I’m super excited for Up In The Air. The movie, which stars George Clooney, is directed by Jason Reitman, who has earned some serious goodwill in my eyes after both Thank You For Smoking and Juno. It received rave reviews when it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and based on the trailer below, it’s easy to see why. The spot has been around for a little while, but if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s undoubtedly worth checking out below. When you’re done, head over to the movie’s official site to learn a little more.
So what was the final verdict? Did the movie live up to your expectations?
Me, I’d say that “Up in the Air” soared right past my expectations. I’m a big Jason Reitman fan, but his third film was different from what I expected — funny, but in the kind of way where you cringe with laughter or choke on it. The jokes, much like the ones in “Thank You for Smoking,” are sharp. Clooney gives what is probably the strongest performance of his career, with Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick not far behind.
I recently reviewed the movie (it came out to theaters near me Dec. 25) here: http://mcarteratthemovies.wordpress.com/2010/01/05/clooney-reitman-hit-new-heights-in-up-in-the-air/#comment-1355.
