I usually try to shy away from helping viral marketing pander to America, but I find Aziz Ansari too likable to help myself in this instance. As part of the filming of Judd Apatow’s upcoming Funny People, there was a stand up show put on that included Adam Sandler, Patton Oswalt, Seth Rogan, Sarah Silverman, and Apatow himself doing sets in character (the movie takes place in the world of standup comedians, as you can probably guess, the characters weren’t too much of a stretch). However, it was the opinion of essentially everybody in attendance (including a friend of mine who managed to nab tickets) that it was Aziz Ansari, in character as Randy, who absolutely stole the show.
Well, apparently the marketing crew behind “Funny People” is aware of this, because Randy has his own website up over at www.laughyourdickoff.com. If you head over to Randy’s site, you can see video clips of the afore-mentioned set, a bio, tour dates, pictures, just the whole deal. Also, there are ads for “Funny People”, in case you somehow have managed to miss the trailer. Watch some of the standup clips and you’ll quickly see that the site lives up to it’s URL.
I remember saying in a post a few months back that Aziz Ansari was primed to have a huge year. Nothing has changed. The dude is everywhere, and he seems to be making the most of every opportunity. It’s good to see the hard work of a talented comic and actor being rewarded, because the dude has been absolutely hilarious for years now (in fairness, he’s probably been hilarious his whole life, he’s just been hilarious on national television and film for years now).
If you like what you see over on Randy’s website, you absolutely should head over to Aziz’s blog, which is also always pretty entertaining. If nothing else, you can find and enjoy Ansari’s review of “Transformers” which is by far the most concise and accurate one that I’ve read. Well done, sir, well done.
